Happy ferth or jerler, y’all! 🇺🇸
First of all, what the absolute heck? Are you in Disneyland?? No. Sorry the featured image is misleading. I just didn’t have any patriotic-ish pictures of myself, haha.
Second of all, where are all of your posts?? Don’t worry, they’re still here. They’re just hidden. Over the past four years, I have slowly withdrawn from most social media. I still have an Instagram account that I use to find memes, look at food from Disneyland, and to stalk people. It is possible that I unarchive the hidden posts and release them sporadically–just as Disney re-releases movies from their vault on new media every half-decade or so.
I truly have no idea who will read this post/blog. I do have 5 subscribers to the subscription feed that I started back in 2014… Hi Griffin, Sarah, Shirley, and Melanie! You may have noted that I only mentioned 4 names. Don’t worry, there is no drama from excluding the 5th person. That person is me. Yes, I subscribe to my own blog so I can see what the emails look like and how long they take to send out. Looking back, I probably could’ve excluded Sarah from the list because she has gotten married since and has a new email address, haha.
Okay, so why am I writing? This past Sunday, I had a distinct impression that I should start regularly start writing on my blog again. I do not write in a journal. I also don’t take many photos. My life essentially has gone undocumented for the last 4 years.
Another reason why I want to start writing again: When I first came to BYU in 2016, I started a YouTube channel. (Those videos are also hidden, sorry not sorry.) I just made random videos for fun with no guidance. When I tell people this, people ask what kind of videos I made and I don’t really have an answer. I just made super random videos, ok? I am a C.S. major and quickly ran out of free time and quickly ceased making videos. I would still like to make videos, but it won’t be for a while.
I’ve had ideas for an animated series for nearly a decade now called StoryTime TV. I’ve come up with settings and stories, such as, “The Lenjrik & Peanut Show”, “The Tale of the Mermaid”, and my personal favorite, “The Ugly Ostrich”. The idea for StoryTime TV was originally conceived by my younger sister Makenna. She came up with this quirky tune and on a road trip to visit my grandparents my Aunt Ally, my siblings, and I fleshed out the lyrics to what has become the theme song of my life. Here’s a sample: “(Girl) Dad, are you literate? Because I don’t think you are. (Dad) No, you’re right. I don’t can’t not read.” Part of this tune, not the fleshed out song with lyrics, was what I used in the intro to all of my videos.
Also inspired by Makenna is this wonderful show called “Jeff & Nochil”. Jeff and Nochil are two Juddas (characters that Makenna created when she was younger. She used to call everyone a “juddahead” and that term was banned in our house from overuse.) whose names come from interesting backgrounds. Nochil’s (pronounced No Chull) name comes from the concatenation of the phrase “No chill”. Jeff’s name was originally spelled Dgaf, but it was deemed too suggestive. The spelling is inspired by the spelling of another character I’ve had in my head for years named Dgeough. Dgeough (pronounced Joe) is a pig who lives in the same universe as Lenjrik the rat, Peanut the mouse, the ugly ostrich, and several other creatures. The name Dgeough is unusual because it is just two suffixes, “dge” and “ough”, tied together.
Okay, that was a tangent.
When I made YouTube videos, I always wanted to have enough subscribers to make a Q&A video. Essentially, the person would ask their followers for questions and then would answer those questions in their next video. I never made it that far on YouTube. I only ever amassed 60-something subscribers before life got to me. However, I wanted to answer all the questions that I currently get asked just so I can document the current state I am in.
Here we go!
Q: What are your plans for the 4th of July?
A: I will probably just binge-watch Stranger Things 3. Other than that…
Q: What are you studying at BYU?
A: I am studying Computer Science.
Q: What do you want to do with that?
A: Many people who get a degree in Computer Science become Software Engineers, Software Developers, or Software Architects. Something along those lines. My dream is to have my own software company.
Q: Are you still working at Chipotle?
A: No. Thank goodness! I worked at Chipotle in Arizona just before coming to BYU and transferred to a location up here in Utah. I quit in February 2018 and got a job as a PeopleSoft Admin/Developer at BYU IT.
Q: Where do you want to end up?
A: In which way? I would love to eventually find the love of my life, whoever that may be. I don’t know if I will live in Arizona or Utah. It is tempting to live in Utah since there are so many tech jobs in Lehi. However, basically all of my family lives in Arizona and I absolutely love my family. Another dream I have is to be the President of the Disneyland Resort, so I could end up there.
Q: Speaking of love, are you dating anyone?
A: Not at the moment. I have gone a few dates, but I am very introverted so it is hard to ask people out. Here is a quick summary of my dating life here in Provo. On three separate occasions, I asked a girl out, which she declined. Within three months, she was engaged to someone else. #relationshipgoals
Q: So if you’re not dating anyone right now, what are you doing with your life?
A: That is all the time we have for questions.
So what can you expect from this blog? Drama. Jk, idk. I don’t know how often “regularly” means to me yet. I can’t even promise that it will even be regular. How about consistently inconsistent? After all, I don’t know if this is even the final resting place for this blog. This blog was once hosted by Blogger at dgeough.blogspot.com, then at studioemmett.blogspot.com, then at emmettito.blogspot.com, and then I finally switched to WordPress, but it was at emmettturley.com. I still own all of these domains and they all redirect here. 🤡
